Nippon Colors is an app that features a comprehensive collection of colors rooted in Japanese literature and various forms of traditional Japanese art, like textiles such as kimono. The color names primarily derive from plant, flower, and animal names which either possessed or resembled the hues. Over time, color palettes and dyeing techniques have evolved since ancient periods like Asuka and modernized with the introduction of synthetic dyes during the Meiji era.

It is important to note that, due to the extensive historical usage of this color system, there may be variations in colors and their corresponding names. Additionally, a significant number of color names have origins in Chinese, further enriching an already intricate hierarchical color system.
